Where to stay when fly
fishing Belize
From budget eco-lodges to private islands. All locations work for daily pickup and trips.
These are my recommendations.
People usually ask me where to stay when they're booking guided fishing trips out of Placencia or nearby islands.
None of these are fishing lodges. Ray Caye has their own fishing program if you want a package deal, but the other three are purely conveniant places to stay while you fish with me. All acommodation bookings are done from ther respected websites linked below.
They cover different budgets and styles. Bella Sway and Permit to Play are private rental homes on the peninsula. Ray Caye is a private island. Windward Lodge is a small eco-lodge on Tobacco Caye.
Three-bedroom beachfront house in Maya Beach, about 20 minutes north of Placencia Village. You rent the whole place, sleep up to eight people. The lagoon-side flats are a quarter mile across the road.
Full kitchen and outdoor grill for self-catering, or walking distance to restaurants and bars. Jaguar Bowling & Sports Bar is right across the street.
Good for groups who want a private base and like handling their own schedule.
What you need to know:
Location: Maya Beach, Placencia Peninsula (mainland)
Sleeps: Up to 8 (whole house rental)
Price: $340–540/night for entire house
Meals: Self-catering (full kitchen)
Fishing: No guides on-site. Book me separately. Easy pickup.
Private island 17 miles offshore, sitting on the barrier reef. Guided fishing+lodging packages available through their website, or book acommodation only, and guiding through me seperatly.
Good for anglers with non-fishing partners who want the full island resort experience. Takes about an hour to get there by boat from Placencia.
What you need to know:
Location: Private island, 17 miles east of Placencia
Sleeps: 20 rooms, single rooms to three-bedroom villas
Price: $350–1,950/night per room, depends on category
Meals: Optional meal plans or included in fishing packages
Fishing: Structured fishing packages available, or book me seperatly.
For anglers who want a premium base right in Permit Alley.
Luxury beachfront house on the Placencia Peninsula, 12 minutes from the village by golf cart. The owners are fly anglers who built the place because of the permit fishing. Private pool, private beach, high-end setup. You handle your own meals and book your guide separately.
Location: Placencia Peninsula (mainland), near Permit Alley
Sleeps: Varies by configuration (whole house rental)
Price: Estimated $300–600+/night
Meals: Self-catering
Fishing: No guides or boats on-site. Book fishing guide separately. Prime location for permit flats.
Small eco-lodge on Tobacco Caye, a tiny island on the barrier reef. You get there by boat from Dangriga, not Placencia.
Most affordable option and they include all your meals. Solar-powered, rustic, right on the reef. Good for anglers on a budget who want to mix a few days of guided fishing, DIY fishing, snorkeling and downtime.
Tobacco Caye is few hours run from Placencia each way, so guided fly fishing charters from here requires multi-day booking. I will come out and stay on the island.
Location: Tobacco Caye (30-minute boat ride from Dangriga)
Sleeps: 6 ocean-view rooms plus budget bunk rooms
Price: ~$100/person/night including three meals
Meals: Compulsory meal plan, three meals daily
Fishing: No guides or boats on-site. Book fishing guide separately (Minimum 2 days)
